Andy Warhol

American (1928 – 1987)

Andy Warhol is one of founders of the Pop art movement.  Warhol constantly experimented with his subject matter and fine art techniques, creating art that took risks and made him a pioneer in almost all forms of visual art.

Warhol was one of the first artists to use silk-screening so extensively in his works. Transforming the medium into an extended metaphor for contemporary society and its abundance, industrialisation and simultaneous and contradictory desire to be both innovative and uniform. Essentially "mass-producing" his artworks in order to comment on the state of contemporary life.

A legend in his own lifetime and forever, Andy Warhol revolutionised attitudes towards art and the individual artist. Andy Warhol was one of the most influential artists of the second half of the 20th century, creating some of the most recognisable images ever produced.
